Trail Conditions

Our Trails | Hood River is located in the middle of over three million acres of trail infested national and county forest. Right out our door you can choose either fast flowy single track through moon of Endor type woods, or rocky technical trails in a desert like setting. There is one of the best free ride areas in the northwest, complete with man made stunts and jumps, just a short distance from the shop. A drive in almost any direction yields miles of high alpine trail in remote areas. We are blessed to live and ride in one of the best towns in the country. Stop in and talk trails with us any time.

Current Trail Conditions: click on a link for details.

HOOD RIVER AREA
Post Canyon: dry and loose, be careful.
Hospital Hill: surprisingly good right now.
Syncline: like a blast furnace with poison oak.
Nester Peak / Buck Creek: shuttler’s choice.
Tower of Power: we don’t recommend it.

HWY 44 TRAILS
Surveyor’s Ridge: in good shape.
Dog River: blown out.
Oak Ridge: open, but why?
Knebal / 8-mile: miles of dust.
Cook Meadow: check out the brand new section.
High Prairie: dusty but still super fun!
15 Mile: open with a few downed trees.
Gunsight Ridge / Gumjuwac Saddle: open, pretty good.
Bonnie Meadows / Forest Creek Loop: pleasant and less populated.

GIFFORD PINCHOT TRAILS
Falls Creek: always sweet.
Lewis River: good dirt.
Mount St. Helens / Plains of Abraham: exotic pumice
Siouxon / Huffman Peak: siouxon-yes. Huffman-no go.
3 Corner Rock: open, steep climbing.
Tarbell / Larch Mountain: the land of horses, and their poo.

Tarbell / Larch Mountain:

Two different loops that begin off the same dirt road, Tarbell and Larch are located in the Yacolt State Forest. Tarbell is 19 miles and Larch is 14 miles. Being lower elevation rides, both are ideal for springtime. Heavy horse use means, look out for poo.

3 Corner Rock:

Remote and rugged, 3 Corner involves a heart-popping climb to a sweet view followed by a fast downhill, all on single track. One of the lesser used trails, you can expect solitude in the woods.

Siouxon / Huffman Peak:

Truly one of the most beautiful trails. Siouxon packs a flowy 12 miles of out-and-back single trail through fern covered woods. The climb up Huffman Peak is one of the hardest in the area and is now an out-and-back due to excessive downfall on the downhill.

Mount St. Helens / Plains of Abraham::

Beginning at Lava Canyon, the trail climbs 4 miles through beautiful forest directly into the blast zone on the side of Mount St. Helens. Most often ridden as an out-and-back, the trail can be made into a funless hell loop with the addition of Smith Creek. Be careful in the dryer months as the pumice [...]

Lewis River:

Cross country extravaganza in a real old growth forest. A surprisingly hard trail that will bleed you down over time. Lewis River is beautiful and lush and the dirt is always good. Great camping and plenty of swimming holes to be found. Beware Sasquatch.

Falls Creek:

The epitome of fine-ass trail riding. Falls creek can be ridden as an out-and-back but is most often a shuttle. 17 miles of the best single track to be found in this area. Also don’t be afraid to check out trail 159, The Terminator, a 10 mile addition to the Falls Creek Loop.

Bonnie Meadows / Forest Creek Loop::

Definitely the trail less traveled. Forest Creek is a 6.5 mile loop leaving from the Bonnie Meadows campground. Remote and beautiful, a good ride for the cross country lovers out there.

Gunsight Ridge / Gumjuwac Saddle::

Sweet higher elevation single track. Gunsight Ridge can be accessed from either Pocket Creek or Bennett Pass. More up than down, it offers spectacular views. Gumjuwac is smooth and flowy downhill with a few technical moves and many, many switchbacks.

15 mile:

Not for the weak. 15 Mile is one big down and one big up. Fun and a bit more technical than other Hwy 44 rides. The climb back out of the hole at the end will crush even the best riders.

High Prairie:

Also known as the 450, this trail is stupid fun, fast and flowy for over 3 miles. One of the best pieces of trail on Hwy 44 it is something riders of all levels will enjoy. Please watch out for uphill traffic.
